HASASE

“O Believers! Eat of the lawful (pure/permissible/halal) good things that We have provided you with, and acknowledge the greatness (favours) of (the Almighty) Allah, if you truly worship only Him.”

(Surah Al-Baqarah, 2:172)

This translation is derived from Kanzul Iman translation of Quran.

What halal means here

A product is considered Halal only when it meets all halal quality-assurance requirements throughout production—from raw materials to engineering processes and the finished product — to ensure the end product is purely and organically halal by all means. Halal animals’ meat and halal process of slaughtering (removal of pulsating blood of a halal animal completely while slaughtering in a halal way) are the common concepts of general public about this term in Muslim societies. However, Halal term is scientifically diverse and halal sciences are not limited to: food, cosmetics, medicine, and biotechnology.

Universities/research platforms and organizations across Muslim-majority countries, especially in Malaysia, are increasingly focusing on halal science and research in halal food, cosmetics, medicines, and biotechnological products.

Vision

Co-developing a world-leading halal cluster of education and research platforms to focus on emerging, impactful multidisciplinary environmental, biological, health, medical, and computational sciences, to share ideas and innovations, to transfer impactful halal science knowledge to the next generation and Industry professionals, and to build a multimodal halal sciences ecosystem.

Mission

An all-in-one, virtual, unique, multilingual, research-based informational and learning hub, and educational and awareness ecosystem for catalysing improvements in advanced versions of halal sciences and bridging impactful emerging sciences with halal sciences in Asia and beyond, which is the need of this digital era.

Objectives

  • Bridge emerging sciences and technologies with halal sciences to advance education and benefit society, industry, and the economy.

  • Bridge halal sciences with health sciences, particularly to understand how halal science knowledge can be impactful and reshape human health and well-being through simple halal science knowledge.

  • Connect the healthcare professionals, biomedical scientists, medical doctors, and computer scientists with Islamic scholars and scientists through a single research and educational platform.

  • Create a real impactful sense of halal sciences, standards, and protocols for the whole community.

  • Develop computational tools and techniques for helping Islamic scholars and society.

  • Reshape community-specific halal education by designing and commencing halal sciences awareness programs.

  • Train students, entrepreneurs, and industry leaders through invited talks/seminars in halal sciences, and to fill the gaps in this trillion-dollar halal industry through emerging sciences.

We share knowledge only through writing, invited talks and seminars at universities and colleges, and training of industry professionals. We do not enroll students or provide degrees or diplomas. Impactful education and awareness are also possible in this digital age without degrees and diplomas.

Halal Advanced Virtual Institute (HAVI) for Rapidly Emerging Sciences

HAVI is a research focused non-degree awarding virtual institute focuses on halal sciences and their advancements and discusses how halal sciences impact health, Industry (a trillion-dollar halal industry), and society, including education and awareness of the role of halal products in human health. Therefore, it is the first unique international platform to integrate halal sciences and will impact human health, industry, and society. Based on insights and scientific knowledge of HAVI Chair, the halal products industry is valued at more than one trillion dollars because of the diversity of halal sciences.

Key Focused Areas for Virtual Education, Awareness, and Research

Dr. Muhammad (PhD) has research experience in rapidly emerging health sciences, including hereditary disorders and cancers, bacterial genomics, and gained skills in emerging facets of bioinformatics, pharmacogenetics, food and environmental sciences, and glycomics. He was a Member of the Genetics Society of America (2022-2025). In different capacities, he has served higher education institutions (including public-sector/government universities) in Asia and the Middle East. He made editorial contributions to quality international health and life science journals as a Topic Editor. In collaboration with the UK, China, Pakistan, and Saudi Arabia scientists, he published peer-reviewed articles on rapidly emerging biomedical science facets in quality (e.g., Q1/Q2 ranking) journals. His publications have been cited in well-respected journals (including top-notch Q1-ranked journals). He attended scientific events (conferences and meetings) in Asia, the Gulf, and Europe. Moreover, he has been invited to share his insights, ideas, and expertise as an Invited/Keynote Speaker and Conference Track (Session) Chair at international events (conferences). He shared his research insights and knowledge with experienced scientists from different world regions, including Asia, Europe, Turkey, and Africa. His research focus, learning, and strengths comprise rapidly evolving health sciences, including cancer glycobiology and genomics, hereditary disease genetics, bacteriology and immunology, apitherapy, pharmacogenetics, environmental chemistry and biology, food sciences, and public health genetics. To maximize potential health benefits to patients with hereditary disorders and cancers, he has been passionately learning about human disease biology, food sciences, glycobiology, genomics, bioinformatics, bacteriology and immunology, environmental health, and pharmacogenetics since 2012.

Computer Sciences Team

Co-founder, Director, and Chief Scientist in Computer Sciences

Dr. Muhammad Mudassar (PhD in Computer Sciences), an Associate Professor (University Faculty), leads the team responsible for the computing and software components of this compendium or knowledge database development. He has been engaged in several projects, including halal food sciences and fault tolerance in autonomous vehicles for the last many years. His research interests and learning include distributed computing, big-data processing frameworks, fog computing, fault tolerance, and edge computing.

Message from Chair

Dear Islamic Scholars, Researchers, Scientists, Faculties, Academicians, Teachers, Industrialists, and Students,

For the past three years, I have been understanding the concepts of halal sciences, particularly their role in health and medical sciences, and thinking about establishing a unique, first-of-its-kind research-focused initiative in halal sciences. In 2026, during my meeting with Dr. Mudassar, we had a detailed discussion about launching this institute, and his enthusiasm became a key driver for launching this HASASE Ecosystem with science-backed research and an educational cluster.  Without Dr. Mudassar, launching HASASE with HAVI institute would be impossible. We also appreciate Dr. Hassan Mahmood, who joined our team as an Islamic Consultant to move this project forward.

We believe that collaboration is a key driver of progress in science and education. Therefore, we welcome those interested in collaboration to accelerate this halal sciences research project.

Based on my insights and scientific knowledge, the halal products industry is valued at much more than one trillion dollars because of the diversity of halal sciences and their applications.

We share knowledge only through writing, invited talks and seminars at universities and colleges, and training of industry professionals. Our platform is currently non-degree-awarding. We do not enroll students or provide degrees or diplomas. Universities and colleges that are interested in inviting us to give seminars/talks on emerging facets of halal sciences, health, and the environment can contact us through our contact form.

We welcome your feedback, comments, suggestions, and collaboration and invited talk/seminar proposals.

We hope our first-of-its-kind HASASE Ecosystem, a leading regional-level initiative with HAVI Institute and SETS-HAI, will raise education, research, and awareness among students, researchers, and teachers, and accelerate industries with science-backed halal science concepts.

Dr. Muhammad R. Manwar, Ph.D.
